Sanwo-Olu Flags Off Commercial Operations Of Lagos Red Line

Sanwo-Olu officially launches the passenger operations of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line (LRMT).

The first phase of Red Line stretches 27-kilometer between Agbado in Ogun State and Oyingbo in Lagos State.

It has eight stations at Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju and Agbado, the latter located in Ogun State.

It is expected to reduce travel times between Agbado and Oyingbo to just 55 minutes from close to three hours.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday September 15th 2024 officially launched the passenger operations of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line, marking a significant milestone for the state’s transportation system.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in the company of his cabinet members, took part in the inaugural ride of the first phase of Red Line, which stretches 27-kilometer between Agbado in Ogun State and Oyingbo in Lagos State.

During the inaugural ride, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of preserving the newly inaugurated rail line and urged citizens to maintain its cleanliness. He also announced that additional train cars were on their way.

He also expressed his satisfaction in fulfilling a promise made to the people of Lagos and reaffirmed his commitment to further improving the state’s infrastructure and services.

The inaugural ride of the Lagos Red Line attracted a gathering of both high-ranking government officials and private sector representatives. Notable attendees included the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi and the Special Adviser, Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa.

Also in attendance is the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Mrs. Margaret Oguntala, the Permanent Secretary for Transportation, Olawale Musa and the Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation, Hon. Adewale Temitope.
