Exciting First Starship Test Launch of 2024 by SpaceX

SpaceX is gearing up for its first Starship test launch of 2024, aiming for a historic orbital flight of the largest rocket globally. If you’re eager to catch this momentous event online, all the details you need are right here.

Launch Details and Livestream Information

Although SpaceX is still awaiting final approval and a launch license from the Federal Aviation Administration for its upcoming Starship launch, the target date is set for no earlier than March 14. The launch will take place at Starbase near Boca Chica Beach in South Texas. SpaceX will provide a livestream on X (previously known as Twitter) starting at 7:30 a.m. EST (1130 GMT) on Thursday. The webcast is expected to commence 30 minutes before the scheduled launch time, making the launch itself set for 8 a.m. EST (1200 GMT) on March 14.

SpaceX’s Starship, accompanied by its Super Heavy booster, towers as the tallest and most potent rocket globally, measuring 400 feet (122 meters) when assembled. The first stage is powered by 33 Raptor engines, while the Starship upper stage carries six Raptors.

Goals of SpaceX’s Starship Launch System

Designed for complete reusability, the Starship launch system by SpaceX aims to facilitate deep-space exploration, heavy-lift launches, and potential space tourism ventures. Already having secured private trips around the moon on Starship and NASA’s selection for the Artemis 3 mission, SpaceX is driven to demonstrate the Starship’s capability to reach orbit successfully. Previous attempts in April and November 2023 did not achieve this milestone.

When to Watch SpaceX’s Third Starship Launch

Presently, SpaceX is eyeing March 14 at 8 a.m. EST for the third Starship test flight. While the official launch window is yet to be disclosed, the livestream feed will kick off at 7:30 a.m. EST (1130 GMT) on the same day, indicating a potential 8 a.m. EST launch time.

As confirmed by SpaceX’s Starship Flight 3 mission description, the livestream will begin 30 minutes before liftoff, aligning with the projected 8 a.m. EST launch target. No specific launch window has been announced yet, considering past launch windows ranged from two hours to 20 minutes for prior flights.

Recap of Previous Starship Test Flights

The first Starship test flight on April 20, 2023, aimed at reaching space but unfortunately did not succeed, with intentional destruction due to stage separation failure. The second test flight took place in November 2023.
