Aston Martin F1 ne compte pas remporter la victoire au début de 2024

Aston Martin F1 ne pense pas viser (...)

What a season it has been for Aston Martin F1, with six podiums in the bag from the first eight races of 2023. However, Team Director Mike Krack knew that the ride would get bumpier as the season progressed. As anticipated, the team’s performance has dipped, leading to criticism, but Krack believes that the team’s struggles are a result of sky-high expectations.

“The first six races were extraordinary, but I knew that there would be challenging periods,” admits Krack. “We remained realistic and tried to manage expectations. The competition in F1 is fierce.”

He goes on to say, “The teams that didn’t start strongly were bound to solve their problems and put up a fight. We knew that things would get tougher. The mid-season has been rough for us, but it may have felt even worse due to our stellar start.”

“The expectations skyrocketed. Imagine if our season hadn’t kicked off with six podiums out of eight races but just a single one. If that were the case, the outcome of the ninth, tenth, 11th, and 12th rounds wouldn’t be any different. With 23 points from the first race, it’s normal for the level of expectation to rise.”

The Luxembourger assures that lessons have been learned from the season, but the team is still trying to grasp its concept: “We understood the car at the end of the season, but it would be wrong to say that we have comprehended everything about the AMR23.”

“We have understood many things, we know what we want to do for 2024, and the direction we need to take with next year’s car. It doesn’t necessarily mean that we will show up at the opening race in Bahrain next year and be in the running for victory.”

Will Operations Be Even More Critical in 2024?

Aston Martin will seek to develop its concept in 2024 after starting from scratch this year. However, Krack acknowledges that the competition will be tough: “When the rules remain stable, as is currently the case, teams prefer to design evolutions.”

“If you have an outstanding car, like Red Bull does, many people will aim for that direction. On the other hand, we have heard Ferrari and Mercedes say they will make significant changes.”

“We are curious to see what they will bring. Ultimately, typically, if the technical regulations stay the same, the field closes up year after year, placing even greater emphasis on operations.”

“If the cars are closely matched, it is the little differences, the small details that make a difference in your grid position.”
