Hey there iPhone users! You know those times when your pocket randomly starts emitting a blinding light? It happens to the best of us! But did you know there’s a way to avoid it? As it turns out, you can adjust some settings on your iPhone to prevent this from happening. That’s right, Apple makes it super easy to turn on your iPhone’s flashlight from the lock screen, perhaps a little too easy.
But fear not, if you’ve found yourself accidentally triggering that flashlight, there’s a simple fix. A little tweak in the settings can save you from that unwanted glow. Simply go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch, and disable Tap or Swipe to Wake. It’s that easy! Now, instead of a pocket full of light or accidentally blinding others, you’ll have to press the side/top (standby or wake) button to activate your iPhone, allowing you to proceed with your passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID safely and without unexpected light shows.
Oh, but that’s not all! If you happen to have the latest iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, you’re in luck. You can actually set the Action button to trigger the flashlight. It requires an intentional press of about a second, making it super hard to trigger accidentally. Phew!
Remember, with these easy tweaks, you can dodge the unnecessary glare and potential eye trauma. Isn’t that just grand? A big thank you to Macworld reader Diane for her question, which clearly was a topic close to many of our hearts.
