Ole⁣ Miss football ‍head coach Lane Kiffin made a mysterious post on X (formerly known as Twitter)⁢ on Friday afternoon about next year’s schedule.

Looking‌ at ⁣next year’s schedule……

That post occurred shortly after Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer reportedly left the Huskies for Alabama to replace seven-time national ⁤champion Nick Saban, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

As Thamel noted, though, Ole Miss isn’t⁣ on Alabama’s‍ ledger in 2024‍ (unless they ⁣meet in the SEC Championship Game).

The 48-year-old Kiffin has‌ ties to Alabama, working under Saban as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach from 2014-2016.

Kiffin ‌was ‍never prominently named to be in the⁤ mix for the Alabama gig despite his success (two ‍national ⁤titles) there. He‍ even mentioned two⁢ years ago that the⁣ job may not be for him anyway.

“What could you possibly do right if you don’t win the national championship every year?” ⁣Kiffin said to USA Today’s Blake Toppmeyer.

“‘You’re going ‍to follow⁤ Nick ⁢Saban at Alabama?’ No, that would not be a good⁤ decision for⁣ anyone.”

As it stands,⁤ he’s locked into Ole Miss after signing a contract extension with ‍the university in December. He also just made a‍ big move in bringing aboard Bryan Brown as the team’s⁤ co-defensive ⁢coordinator and secondary coach. Brown, who played ⁣at Ole Miss ⁤from 2003-2006, was‍ just Cincinnati’s defensive coordinator/associate head coach.

Ultimately, after an 11-win season‍ and Peach⁤ Bowl victory, Ole Miss is well-positioned to compete for College Football Playoff appearances in ⁤the ‍near future. Alabama should certainly be ⁤one of its competitors within the conference, but⁣ those two are scheduled to face each other next season.
