“The Space Race” showcases the struggles and triumphs of African American astronauts from the 1960s to modern times, highlighting events like the assassination of JFK and the civil unrest sparked by George Floyd’s death. It emphasizes the importance of representation in the space program and the impact of these diverse individuals on the history of space exploration.
The film, executive produced by Frank Marshall and Leland Melvin, aims to redefine traditional narratives by celebrating the contributions of Black astronauts in science and space exploration. Featuring interviews with Victor Glover, Frederick Gregory, Bernard Harris, Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez, and Jessica Watkins, “The Space Race” offers a unique perspective on NASA’s diverse history.
