Milwaukee Brewers Holding on to Devin Williams and Willy Adames
The Milwaukee Brewers seem to be staying put with star closer Devin Williams and shortstop Willy Adames, despite their impending free agency. According to a report by Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Brewers are not actively seeking trades for either player at the moment.
Devin Williams has been a standout performer in Milwaukee’s bullpen since his debut in 2019. He quickly rose to prominence as one of the best relief pitchers in the game, earning accolades such as NL Rookie of the Year and NL Reliever of the Year in 2020. His remarkable 0.33 ERA and 0.63 WHIP that season were unparalleled, showcasing his dominance on the mound.
Transitioning into the role of the Brewers’ closer this past season, Williams continued to impress with 36 saves, a 1.53 ERA, and 87 strikeouts in 58.2 innings pitched. His stellar performance earned him another NL Reliever of the Year title and a spot at the All-Star Game for the second consecutive year.
Willy Adames, acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in 2021, also proved to be a valuable asset for the Brewers. Leading the team in games played, home runs, and RBIs, Adames showcased his power at the plate throughout the season.
With a solid 92-70 record and their second NL Central division title in three years, the Brewers have set their sights on a deeper postseason run. After bowing out in the NL Wild Card Round last year, the team is determined to go further in the playoffs next season.
It’s evident that Milwaukee values the contributions of both Devin Williams and Willy Adames, hence their reluctance to entertain trade offers for either player at this time. The decision to retain these key pieces reflects the team’s commitment to building on their recent success and striving for greater achievements in the upcoming seasons.
