A mother in Alabama faced legal repercussions after a disciplinary incident with her 7-year-old son that took a dangerous turn. Sarai Rachel James, 27, from Boaz, Alabama, had picked up her son from school one afternoon when she was informed by the principal about his misconduct earlier that day.
Instead of driving her son home, James made him get out of the car not far from the school. She insisted he walk or run the remaining eight blocks home as punishment for his behavior at school. As she drove alongside him or followed closely, a tragic accident occurred – as her son tried to grab the car’s door handle, he was pulled under the vehicle and run over by a rear tire.
The police chief of Boaz, Michael Abercrombie, revealed that James may not have intended to harm her son but put him in harm’s way with her disciplinary actions. The boy miraculously escaped with minor injuries to his back and head. Despite James’ intentions, she was charged with aggravated child abuse and had to post a $50,000 bond for her release.
Following the incident, James was mandated to have no contact with her son. In addition, another woman in the car during the incident, a 53-year-old, was charged with endangering a child and had to pay a $500 bond for release.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the consequences that can arise from extreme disciplinary actions. It is crucial for parents to handle behavioral issues in a safe and appropriate manner, avoiding putting their children in danger. The well-being and safety of children should always be the top priority in any parenting decisions.
