Walter Trout, the iconic blues-rock figure, is riding a creatively formidable wave and heading into 2024 with a loud, wild, and moving album in “Broken.” This album features special guest appearances from powerful singer Beth Hart, Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, and harmonica virtuoso Will Wilde. It is set to be released on March 1 through Provogue/Mascot Label Group.
A New Musical Journey
Take a glimpse at the latest single, “Bleed,” featuring Will Wilde.
Trout has followed a philosophy throughout his seven volatile decades in the heart of American society and the blues-rock scene: everyone may be broken, but no one is beyond repair. Despite the world being more fractured than ever due to politics, economics, social media, and cultural wars, his latest album, “Broken,” tells the bitter divides of modern life while refusing to succumb to them.
At 72 years old, Trout reflects on his latest work, admitting, “I have always tried to write positive songs, and this album is not as uplifting. But I always cling to hope. I think that’s why I wrote this album.”
A Journey of Hope and Resilience
From his traumatic childhood in Ocean City, New Jersey, to bold moves to the West Coast, tumultuous collaborations with legendary artists, and battling addictions, Trout’s story is one of resilience and hope. While some may point to his guitar fireworks with the Bluesbreakers of John Mayall in the mid-80s as the peak of his career, for many fans, his solo work since 1989 is where his blood, heart, and soul shine through.
Trout’s artistic journey is marked by numerous accolades, including Blues Music Awards, SENA European Guitar Awards, British Blues Awards, and Blues Blast Music Awards. Renowned DJ ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris once hailed Trout as “the best rock guitarist in the world.” Despite these achievements, Trout remains hungry for growth and contribution. He states, ”I have to evolve. I want to be an artist who contributes meaningfully.”
