Australian artist Tones And I has achieved an impressive milestone on Spotify, with her song ‘Dance Monkey’ surpassing three billion streams on the platform, making her one of only eight artists to reach this mark nationwide. Tones And I stands out as the only female artist among these exceptional performers.
‘Dance Monkey’ not only dominated the charts but also made its way to the top spot on the ARIA Chart for an impressive 24 weeks and maintained its position on the Official UK Singles Chart for 11 weeks, setting new records for a female artist in both cases.
The success of the song extended to the United States, where it reached the fifth spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, propelling Tones And I to the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters Chart. This achievement was particularly momentous, as a solo female artist had not achieved a top-five position on the Hot 100 since Whitney Houston in 2012.
Tones And I, also known as Toni Watson, co-wrote ‘Dance Monkey’ and collaborated with Brisbane producer Konstantin Kersting on its production. The song has topped charts in over 30 regions and boasts a music video on YouTube that has garnered over two billion views.
Adding to its list of accomplishments, ‘Dance Monkey’ set a new record for Shazams, quickly entered the APRA AMCOS 1,000,000,000 List, and earned Tones And I multiple awards. Her latest single, “Dreaming,” was recently released and will be featured on her upcoming album set for release later this year.
Currently, Tones And I is on tour with Pink across Australia and New Zealand as the opening act for the singer’s Summer Carnival tour, performing at 20 stadiums in the region. The tour, produced by Live Nation, is on track to sell 900,000 tickets, setting a new record for a solo female artist touring Australia and New Zealand.
