Introducing the Logitech MX Brio Webcam

When it comes to PC accessories, webcams may not evolve as rapidly as other tech gadgets like CPUs or smartphones. However, Logitech’s top-of-the-line Brio 4K webcam has received a fresh update after seven years since its initial release. The new MX Brio is now part of Logitech’s prestigious MX line, joining renowned devices like the MX Master mouse and MX Keys keyboard.

Advanced Features

The MX Brio webcam features an updated 8.5-megapixel 4K sensor, a physical privacy shutter, and an innovative flip-down capability for showcasing your desktop. While the previous Brio model allowed for desktop display, it was not as user-friendly. The MX Brio enables users to effortlessly flip the camera down 90 degrees, causing the streamed image to rotate by 180 degrees, offering a unique perspective of your workspace.

Enhanced Performance

The MX Brio boasts improved lighting correction for enhanced illumination, delivering “2X finer image detail and face visibility compared to the previous Brio 4K” model. Additionally, users can access advanced image control settings through software, while the webcam’s dual beamforming microphones with noise reduction enhance audio quality.

Built-In Privacy Features

A notable addition to the MX Brio is the built-in privacy shutter, easily activated by the knurled ring around the lens. Windows Hello face recognition is supported, although the shutter must remain open for this feature. Logitech touts “AI enhancement” throughout its promotional materials, although the exact application of this technology remains ambiguous.

Target Audience

Priced at $200, the MX Brio is positioned as the ultimate webcam for remote workers and streamers. While it may appeal to the former, streamers seeking a professional setup typically opt for DSLR or mirrorless cameras or high-end smartphones with specialized software. Interestingly, Microsoft recently allowed Android phones to function as webcams in Windows 11 without additional drivers.

Availability

The Logitech MX Brio is now available for purchase on Logitech’s online store and will soon be stocked at major electronics retailers. A similar model, the “MX Brio 705 for business,” is also available, catering to corporate users seeking a professional webcam solution.
