Xavien Howard’s Future with the Miami Dolphins Uncertain
Xavien Howard has been a constant presence in the Miami Dolphins lineup throughout his career, but it seems that will change in 2024.
In a recent interview with Joe Rose of 560 Sports WQAM, the cornerback made it clear that a reunion with his current team is out of the question.
“The door is closed, I’m sorry,” Howard stated firmly.
According to a report from Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have decided to part ways with Howard post-June 1, a move that will free up a significant $18.5 million in cap space.
General manager Chris Grier explained the decision, stating, “We had a long discussion and he understood it was a business decision.”
Although Grier left the possibility open for Howard’s return, the veteran cornerback made it clear that he has other plans for the future.
Turning 31 during the 2024 season, Howard expressed his desire to continue playing in the NFL and hopes to join a playoff-caliber team.
With an impressive resume, including four Pro Bowl selections and leading the league in interceptions in 2018 and 2020, Howard will undoubtedly draw interest from multiple teams.
Despite a slowdown in interceptions in recent seasons, Howard remains a top-tier cornerback, as evidenced by his 2022 Pro Bowl nod despite only one interception.
As he enters free agency, it will be interesting to see which team will secure the services of this talented cornerback with his eye on postseason success.
