E. Jean Carroll Reacts to Donald Trump’s Bond Posting After Defamation Verdict
After Donald Trump recently posted a $91.6 million bond to cover a defamation verdict against him in a high-profile trial earlier this year, E. Jean Carroll has responded in a mocking manner. The verdict, which ruled in Carroll’s favor, came after nine months of litigation, during which Trump was found liable for sexually assaulting Carroll in a department store dressing room in the 1990s.
The bond, issued by Federal Insurance Co, would cover Carroll’s $83.3 million judgment if Trump were to lose his appeal and fail to pay the writer. Despite attempts to reach out to Trump for comment through his website, he has remained silent on the matter.
However, Carroll, who is 80 years old, seems to find humor in the situation. She recently shared an image on her blog, titled “SURPRISE!” that confirmed Trump’s bond posting. In her post, Carroll mentioned her lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, who successfully represented her in the trial against Trump.
Following the denial of Trump’s request to delay payment of the $83.3 million judgment, Judge Lewis A. Kaplan emphasized that Trump had more than enough time to organize his finances since the initial ruling. Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, requested a stay on the judgment along with the bond posting, which Trump did before the deadline.
Despite his beliefs that the judgment is baseless and part of a Democratic “witch hunt,” Trump has not publicly commented on the bond posting. With his recent decision to post the bond, Trump will navigate the appeals process while facing reelection against President Joe Biden in November.
