Russian Anti-Aircraft Weapon Losses Mount in Ukraine Conflict
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has seen a significant increase in Russian anti-aircraft weapon losses, according to recent reports from Kyiv’s General Staff. The latest data shows that Russia has lost three anti-aircraft weapons in just one day, bringing the total number of such equipment lost since the beginning of the war to 707. However, it should be noted that obtaining accurate figures on casualty counts and equipment losses is a challenging task.
A surge in anti-aircraft system losses has been observed in recent weeks, with Kyiv reporting 13 such losses in the past seven days, including five on March 2 alone. This represents the highest weekly losses of anti-aircraft systems recorded so far this year.
Verification of Russian equipment losses has been conducted by the website Oryx, which has documented the loss of various anti-aircraft guns, including ZU-23-2 twin-barreled autocannons and Ural-4320 vehicles used as a platform for the BM-21 “Grad” rocket launcher. The data also indicates the loss of self-propelled guns, such as 2K22 Tunguskas and ZSU-23-4 “Shilka” radar-guided anti-aircraft weapon systems.
Overall, Oryx suggests that actual Russian equipment losses may exceed the reported figures, with 212 surface-to-air missile systems, including 9K35 Strela-10s, among the items lost. Furthermore, Russian troop losses have reached 423,160, with 850 reported in the previous day alone.
In addition to military losses, Russian forces have been engaged in clashes with Ukrainian troops, resulting in the downing of 47 Ukrainian drones in a single night. These incidents have led to heightened tensions in the regions of Belgorod, Kursk, Volgograd, and Rostov oblasts. Reports from Telegram channels have indicated multiple explosions in the city of Taganrog, with Governor Vasily Golubev describing the events as “massive.”
The situation on the ground remains fluid, with ongoing reports of escalating conflict in the region. As the conflict rages on, the human and material toll continues to mount, underscoring the devastating impact of the war on both sides.
