A “potential explosion” has rocked a critical shipping route off the coast of Yemen, according to the British military. The incident occurred in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which separates East Africa from the Arabian Peninsula. The UK Maritime Trade Operations issued a warning to shippers about the incident, along with reports of drone activity in the area. The Bab el-Mandeb connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and has been the site of recent attacks attributed to Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
