A Reddit user, BNSoul, recently reported a performance drop of about 8 percent on a gaming PC after updating to Windows 11 2023. The user then received a fix from Microsoft that addressed the issue.

After updating Windows 11, BNSoul saw a noticeable decline in the AMD 5800X3D CPU performance. “To put it simple [sic], every CPU benchmark shows significantly reduced CPU performance after updating to Windows 11 23H2 from 22H2, even after a fresh/clean install,” the user reported.

Other users have expressed similar issues on both AMD Ryzen and Intel 13th-gen CPUs. After some back and forth with Microsoft, BNSoul received a step-by-step solution, suggesting “to reset Windows Defender through a couple of PowerShell commands then reboot and enable CPU Virtualization in BIOS.”

Microsoft’s solution, outlined in a Reddit thread, involves executing commands in PowerShell, rebooting the system, enabling CPU virtualization in BIOS, and turning on Memory Integrity under the Core Isolation settings within Windows 23H2.

The fix is intended to address the CPU slowdowns experienced after updating to the Windows 11 2023 Update. According to the user, after applying the fix, gaming benchmarks were back to expected levels. Plus, some GPU benchmarks even showed an increase.
