American Forests and the USDA Forest Service Join Forces to Expand Reforestation in National Forests

A $20 million agreement has been announced to help address a 4-million-acre backlog of burned and damaged forests

WASHINGTON – American Forests has announced a groundbreaking $20 million agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service to rapidly scale reforestation efforts across millions of burned and degraded acres over the next five years.

Powered by the historic REPLANT Act, this comprehensive partnership aims to assist the Forest Service in quickly assessing and prioritizing reforestation needs, enhancing restoration planning, and expanding seed collection capabilities.

Thanks to the REPLANT Act, the Forest Service now has access to nearly ten times more funding for reforestation projects annually, which will significantly help address the backlog of at least four million acres of National Forest System land in need of reforestation.
