Bitcoin surged in the past 24 hours, coming close to $45,000 for the first time since May 2022, although it ultimately fell short of overcoming that level.
Despite this, several altcoins have outperformed BTC, with ADA, DOT, and AVAX as notable examples.
BTC Comes Close to $45K
Last Saturday, BTC began its latest surge, almost reaching $40,000. After initially failing to break through that level and trading below it on Sunday, the new week started with another uptick that pushed the cryptocurrency above that line for the first time in over a year and a half.
Since then, Bitcoin has continued to climb higher, surging past $44,000 on Wednesday. Although the bears attempted to push it back down to $43,000, it quickly rebounded.
Bitcoin jumped as high as $44,800 to mark a new 2023 peak. Despite losing some ground since then, BTC still trades above $44,000 and is up over 2% on the day.
Its market capitalization has now surpassed $860 billion, but its dominance over the alts has decreased to 52.4%.

Alts Show Strong Gains
While most alternative coins trailed BTC in recent weeks, many have caught up in the last 48 hours. ETH is approaching $2,400 after another daily increase, BNB has surged above $240 following a 5% jump, and XRP (7.5%) is hovering near $0.7.
Solana, Dogecoin, Polygon, Chainlink, Litecoin, and Uniswap have posted similar gains to XRP, while Polkadot and Avalanche have experienced significant gains of 21-22%. Cardano is leading the charge with a massive 32% surge, with ADA currently trading well above $0.6.
With most other alts in the green, the total crypto market cap has surged by over $40 billion and stands above $1.650 trillion on CMC.
