I think we can all agree that more diversity in movies is long overdue. Specifically, when it comes to artificial intelligence. Include sci-fi in the mix, and the list only gets smaller. We need stories that explore AI in society, our relationships with technology, and questions about what it means to be human – minus the tired old clichés. After watching this movie as a kid, I desperately wanted my robot. The charm of Short Circuit was the spark that brought the robot to life – not technology or code. He learned about the world by watching TV shows and reading encyclopedias. A mirror image of today’s large language models.
Her (2013).
Her challenged the idea of falling in love with an AI, which seemed far-fetched at the time. In today’s world, it’s not as impossible as it once was. The AI develops her emotions, diving into themes of intimacy and relationships with AI counterparts.
