Zinedine Zidane, the legendary French footballer and Alpine ambassador, opened his arms to Alpine Racings drivers in Madrid yesterday. Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, the F1 duo, joined Zidane for an immersive day and reflections on the 2023 racing season.
At the helm of his elite footballing skills, Zidane, as part of his ambassadorial role, is sharing his wealth of knowledge for Alpine’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, including the well-established Rac(H)er and Concours Excellence Mecanique (CEMA).
Alpine’s Rac(H)er program, launched in July 2022, aims to diversify talent by strengthening meritocracy across all areas of the organization, from racing drivers to engineering and technical roles.
CEMA is Alpine’s program dedicated to aspiring car mechanics, supported by Esteban. The program provides opportunities to students in France in the car mechanic sector, offering a three-stage competition that culminates in a work placement at Alpine’s Viry Chatillon headquarters in Paris.
Yesterday’s event in Madrid included a special tour of Real Madrid CF’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and trophy-lined museum, where Zidane’s legacy as a player and manager was evident.
Following the stadium tour, Zidane, Esteban, Pierre, the young Alpine drivers, and the 2023 CEMA placement winners drove A110s around the city to a karting event. Zidane, taking the helm of an electric go-kart, received guidance from Lisa Billard and Sukhmani Khera, two of Alpine’s Rac(H)er drivers currently competing in world karting.
After that, the roles reversed as Zidane hosted a friendly football match among all the Alpine drivers.
Zinedine Zidane expressed his excitement: “It was a great privilege for me to host the Alpine family in Madrid. This ambassadorial role, supporting their equal opportunities programs, is of importance to me because of my own path. I am proud to pass on some of my life and sports experiences to Alpine’s Rac(H)er and CEMA programs.”
Julian Rouse, Interim Sporting Director, also commented: “It’s been a very rewarding day in Madrid and we would like to thank Zinedine for hosting us and for his invaluable engagement in our CSR projects.”
