What a Game! Giannis Antetokounmpo scored an impressive career-high of 64 points against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, but the real story was about the game ball showdown that ensued.
Giannis was determined to get it, but it seemed like the Pacers had nabbed it from under his nose. This led to a dramatic chase into the Pacers’ tunnel, followed by a commotion that left Pacers GM Chad Buchanan nursing bruised ribs.
However, Carlisle clarified that the Pacers didn’t intend to swipe the game ball from Giannis, but rather wanted it for their rookie, Oscar Tshiebwe, who had scored his first NBA point during the game.
Things got even more interesting as CBS Sports’ Jack Maloney revealed that Bucks security did retrieve a ball for Giannis, but he wasn’t convinced it was the actual game ball. In fact, Giannis mentioned that he didn’t even want the ball for himself, but planned to give it to his mom. Instead, he expressed the desire for Damian Lillard to have it.
But amidst all this, there is reason to believe the Pacers’ actions were not as innocent as they claim. The tensions were already high, especially after a rough play by the Pacers’ Aaron Nesmith and the fuss over Giannis breaking records in a blowout game.
