Arizona’s rise to the top of the Associated Press Top 25 men’s college basketball poll has been nine years in the making, and the Wildcats finally sit in the coveted No. 1 spot.
The Wildcats clinched the No. 1 spot after receiving 59 out of 63 first-place votes, surpassing preseason favorite Kansas. This marks Arizona’s first time at the top of the AP Top 25 since January 2014. Tommy Lloyd, in his third season as head coach, has steered the team to the peak of college basketball.
This week, Arizona replaces Purdue at the top after a weekend win against Colgate. No team in the Top 25 maintained their previous position, with teams like Houston and UConn making notable moves.
Gonzaga and North Carolina also surged into the top 10 for the first time this season, and significant jumps were seen across several other teams, including Creighton and Duke.
