European electricity markets also experienced a surge in energy demand during the last week of November. The demand shot up to 15% in Great Britain and 14% in France. Even Portugal saw a modest increase of 2.3%. The other markets analyzed by AleaSoft Energy Forecasting reported demand variations ranging from 2.6% in Italy to 8.5% in the Netherlands.
The temperatures played a vital role in this surge. In more northern markets like Germany, France, Great Britain, Belgium, and the Netherlands, average temperatures dropped by over 3 C.
