Biden administration officials have shocked lawmakers with the revelation that an average of 5,000 illegal migrants are being released into the U.S. each day. According to a report from Fox News, more than 670,000 people evaded Border Patrol in fiscal year 2023, painting a concerning picture of the situation at the border.
Fox News exposed that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials informed key congressional committees and the Arizona delegation about the staggering numbers of “gotaways” and the release of illegal migrants to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on a daily basis.
If the trend continues, over 1.8 million illegal migrants could be released into the U.S. over the course of a year, further adding to the existing challenges.
Breaking records, Border Patrol encountered over 12,000 migrants in a single day, adding to the over 2.4 million encounters in FY23. The sheer magnitude of the situation is evident with an all-time monthly high of over 260,000 encounters in September alone, as reported by Fox News.
The situation at ports of entry is not any less concerning, with the report revealing that an average of 1,600 migrants are being processed and released using humanitarian parole every day. This diverse group of migrants hails from more than 150 countries.
Lawmakers pressed DHS officials about collaborating with Mexico to stem the flow of migrants to the southern border. The response emphasized the safety and security of noncitizens, particularly the risks they face while traveling illegally by train. However, no concrete details were provided about preventing migrants from boarding trains in the first place.
