

Five occupants of the Mazda were pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.
New Year’s Day turned tragic when a two-vehicle accident on the Cross Island Parkway in Queens resulted in the deaths of five people. The Mazda sedan, speeding north on the expressway, hit a curb and overturned around 6 a.m., according to police sources.
Another vehicle, a Honda, then collided with the Mazda near Exit 36S, causing the car to flip over. The four adults inside the Mazda were thrown from the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash also claimed the life of a fifth occupant, who was later discovered at the scene. In contrast, the driver of the Honda was hospitalized and reported to be in stable condition.
The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is still investigating the crash, and no arrests have been made. To read more, click here.
