Exciting Space Mission Set for Valentine’s Day Launch
Intuitive Machines and SpaceX are gearing up for an exciting private moon mission launch on February 14th. The IM-1 mission, involving Houston-based Intuitive Machines’ Nova-C moon lander, is scheduled to blast off atop a Falcon 9 rocket from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 12:57 a.m. EST.
Private Moon Mission Aimed for Lunar Surface Landing
The main highlight of the IM-1 mission will be the attempt to land the robotic Nova-C lander “Odysseus” softly on the lunar surface on February 22nd. If successful, Odysseus will make history as the first private spacecraft to achieve this incredible feat.
Milestones Leading to Launch
As the launch approaches, SpaceX and Intuitive Machines have been steadily making progress. Notable achievements include the encapsulation of Odysseus inside the Falcon 9’s payload fairing on January 31st and an upcoming fueling test on the pad scheduled for February 7th.
Payloads and Partnerships
Odysseus will carry a total of 12 payloads on the IM-1 mission, with six being commercial and six being NASA science instruments. These payloads are part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services program, which aims to support human missions to the moon by using private robotic spacecraft to deliver scientific equipment.
Liftoff Window and Future Opportunities
The initial launch window for IM-1 spans three days, with additional opportunities on February 15th and 16th if needed. Should the mission face any delays, the next chance for liftoff will be in March.

IM-1 follows in the footsteps of previous CLPS-affiliated missions, such as Astrobotic’s Peregrine lunar lander which launched in January. Despite encountering a fuel leak issue, Peregrine’s mission marked a significant step forward in the development of lunar exploration technologies.
