In the next 50 years, the company foresees a requirement for an additional billion liters of water per day to cater to its customers in London and the Thames Valley region.

Through the Technical Partner framework, the water company will have access to professional support services valued at up to £300m to tackle upcoming water supply challenges.
Proposed projects include the potential establishment of a new reservoir in Oxfordshire and a new river abstraction point on the River Thames with water recycling support.


Expressing his views, Mohit Farmah, the head of Procurement and Supply Chain for Thames Water’s Strategic Resource Options Directorate, emphasized the significance of the agreement in advancing the Strategic Resource Options Programme.
Collaborating with technical partners, the aim is to foster the development of innovative solutions that will safeguard the environment, benefit customers, and ensure a sustainable water supply to enhance drought resilience.


Highlighting the importance of the plan, Mike McNicholas, managing director for Infrastructure at AtkinsRéalis, and Mark Tindale, Water Strategy Director at Stantec, praised Thames Water’s strategic water resources program as the largest in the country.
They emphasized the critical need for efficient delivery of SRO projects, calling for cross-sector collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and impactful teamwork to address the challenges ahead in ensuring water supply resilience.
