DragonForce has caused quite a stir by releasing an unexpected cover of Taylor Swift’s hit song “Wildest Dreams” to shake up everyone’s predictions for 2024.
Following Taylor Swift’s boyfriend’s success at Superbowl LVIII, it’s now Swift’s turn to see her dreams come true as her beloved nerdy metal band (rumored to be a favorite) puts their unique twist on her 2014 track.
The cover is featured as a bonus track on DragonForce’s upcoming ninth album, “Warp Speed Warriors,” set to be released on March 15. The band has fully embraced their signature extreme power metal style, complete with shredding guitar solos and intense blast beats.
If you felt that Taylor’s original song was missing some Pac-Man inspired guitar riffs, then you’re in luck. Guitarist and founding member Herman Li showcases his impressive whammy bar techniques and video game-inspired solos that race across the track’s high-energy backdrop.
The song kicks off with a whammy bar squeal that leads into a fast-paced rendition of the intro melody, setting the tone for what’s to come.
Li and fellow guitarist Sam Totman deliver lightning-fast solos infused with harmonies that rival the output of Mötley Crüe’s greatest hits albums.
The band has encouraged Taylor Swift fans to share their thoughts on the cover, prompting comments like “@IcyLucario’s observation that “When DragonForce covers a song, it sounds like it was always meant to be theirs.” Others, like @synnova3225, have described the cover as “fantastical and otherworldly,” noting how well the melody fits the power metal style.
DragonForce, known for their over-the-top track “Through the Fire and Flames” featured in Guitar Hero, performed “Wildest Dreams” during a recent North American tour, creating buzz on social media. The band is gearing up for a European tour with Amaranthe starting on February 21 in Hamburg, where their electrifying version of “Wildest Dreams” is sure to make an appearance.
“We are thrilled to unveil what we believe to be our most ambitious and grandiose record yet,” shares Li about “Warp Speed Warriors.” “This album showcases our diverse artistic abilities, inviting metal fans from all corners of the genre to explore its multifaceted layers.”
“Warp Speed Warriors” will be released on March 15 through Napalm Records, marking a new chapter for DragonForce’s epic sound.
