Tragedy struck the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs campus as two individuals were discovered deceased in a dorm room, each with gunshot wounds, as reported by the Colorado Springs police. The incident unfolded early in the morning when a call came in alerting university police of gunshots. Law enforcement promptly informed the Colorado Springs Police about the situation.
Following the distressing discovery, precautions were taken on campus. One of the university’s residence halls, Alpine Village, was asked to shelter-in-place, and the campus went into a brief lockdown, which was later lifted. Consequently, operations for the day were suspended.
Authorities have indicated that the shooting appears to be an isolated event. An extensive investigation is underway, with the victims’ identities being withheld until their families are informed about the tragic event.
In response to the incident, University Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet issued a campus update expressing deep sorrow and appreciation for the students who adhered to the lockdown directives. She articulated, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of two lives in this tragic event. The senseless violence that occurred today has left us devastated.”
