Mean Girls” Softens its Tone
The 2024 musical adaptation of the beloved 2004 film “Mean Girls” has made a significant change by removing a controversial joke aimed at Lindsay Lohan. In the original version, rapper Megan Thee Stallion appeared in a TikTok video with a reference to Lohan’s iconic character, Cady Heron, played by Angourie Rice in the new adaptation.
In the theatrical release, Megan Thee Stallion made a comment about going back to red hair, reminiscent of Lohan’s famous red locks, using the term “fire crotch.” However, the digital version of the movie has now omitted this joke following Lohan’s expressed hurt and disappointment over the insult.
Lohan, who played a cameo role in the new film, was not informed about the controversial line by screenwriter Tina Fey, a long-time friend. The origins of the insult trace back to a 2006 incident involving socialite Brandon Davis, who made derogatory remarks about Lohan in a recorded video.
The now-viral video of Davis disparaging Lohan’s appearance spurred a feud between the celebrities that lasted for years and only recently came to an end. The removal of this offensive joke from the digital release reflects a shift towards more sensitivity and awareness in the entertainment industry.
The decision to edit out the hurtful remark demonstrates a growing trend towards cultural sensitivity and inclusivity in media adaptations. However, controversies and disputes in the entertainment industry continue to shape the narratives and discussions surrounding popular films like “Mean Girls.”
