TikTok recently introduced a new initiative for content creators called the Creator Rewards Program. This program, previously known as the Creativity Program, aims to incentivize the creation of longer videos to increase ad revenue for the platform. The Creator Rewards Program will specifically reward videos that are over one minute long, focusing on originality, play duration, search value, and audience engagement.
According to TikTok, longer videos have proven to be more profitable, with a significant increase in total creator revenue and a higher number of creators making substantial monthly earnings. The success of this program has led to a notable growth in creator earnings and overall engagement on the platform.
In addition to the Creator Rewards Program, TikTok is expanding its subscription features for creators beyond live streaming. Eligible creators will soon have access to exclusive content offerings, badges, and personalized emojis to enhance their communities and deepen connections with their audience.
While the previous Creator Fund faced criticism for low payouts, the beta phase of the Creativity Program saw significant success among select creators, resulting in considerably higher monthly earnings. This shift has provided creators with a new and more lucrative opportunity for monetizing their content on TikTok.
However, the platform has faced challenges regarding audience reception to longer videos. A TikTok survey revealed that a significant portion of users found videos over a minute in length to be “stressful,” indicating a potential reluctance towards longer-form content consumption.
Aside from content creation initiatives, TikTok is also confronted with external pressures, such as a recent legislative proposal in the US that seeks to compel ByteDance to sell TikTok to remain operational in the country.
