News - Russian Cosmonauts Leverage Manual Control to Dock Progress 86 Cargo Ship at the International Space Station (ISS)

During live commentary, when the Progress 86 vehicle started drifting away from the expected attitude and was not aligned with the docking target, Anna Schneider from NASA said, “The crew aboard the International Space Station has taken over manual control and recovered the expected attitude.” Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko was able to successfully dock the Progress 86 spacecraft with the ISS at 6:18 a.m. EDT (1118 GMT), after completing 37 orbits of Earth before docking. Kononenko confirmed contact and capture of the cargo ship, as it and the ISS were sailing 260 miles over the western Pacific Ocean. Progress 86 is carrying 5,600 pounds (2,540 kilograms) of supplies for the seven crew members currently living and working on the ISS, including food, equipment, supplies, and science experiment gear.
