During a game against the Bengals, Trevor Lawrence needed help off the field after injuring his right ankle. The Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback’s right leg got bent awkwardly on a tackle late in the fourth quarter and he had to be assisted off the field. The injury occurred when Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson pushed Walker Little back into Lawrence, accidentally stepping on his right ankle while doing so.
Although backup C.J. Beathard took over at quarterback, Lawrence’s injury is expected to have a significant impact on the AFC playoff race. The Jaguars initially listed Lawrence as questionable with an ankle injury and cited his absence as a contributing factor to the team’s loss in the game. A Pro Bowler in his second NFL season last year, Lawrence’s role is critical to Jacksonville’s success and his absence could potentially affect future games against the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans.
