There were some interesting rumors floating around lately about Disney’s plans to revive some dead and retired characters in the MCU to try to breathe new life into the franchise. Characters such as Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, Chris Evans’ Steven Rogers, and Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff might have been making a comeback in some way for future movies.

Both Evans and Johansson have responded to these rumors. Johansson joked about it, suggesting it might be a zombie movie, and Evans denied discussing the idea with anyone at Marvel.

Now, Marvel studio head Kevin Feige was asked about this idea. He made it clear that they are not planning to bring back RDJ’s Tony Stark, saying, “We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”

It seems like the MCU has a chaotic plan in mind with elements from Kang, current heroes, the new Fantastic Four, and X-Men. This plan doesn’t seem very cohesive, especially with the recent underperformance of The Marvels at the box office. The Disney Plus streaming ambitions of the MCU also seem to have gone overboard, according to Disney.

While there are many creative ways characters like RDJ, Evans, and Johansson could return to the roles, it seems that the MCU is committing to a new path moving forward.
