Step aside Frankie, it’s Norma’s turn to tell everyone to “Relax!” According to Norma Kamali, “it’s time to de-stress, we can’t take it anymore.” During a walk-through of her pre-fall 2024 collections, she showcased a range of soft jersey knits designed to be worn loose, wrapped, or layered. These casual, yoga-inspired looks, mostly in heather gray and white, effortlessly drape around the body. “The fabric is the sensual part of it,” Kamali emphasized. “I strongly feel that a relaxed mood is essential for women… because we just need to not have to be on point all the time.” But worry not, the designer also offers smart separates in navy and white for those times when you need to be on point. Notably, she reintroduced high-waisted pants that are fitted through the rib cage, a style she originally debuted in the ’70s and believes is just as right for now.
Among her pre-fall offerings is a dress from the designer’s archive featured in the “Women Dressing Women” exhibition at the Met. Kamali revisited this dress, transforming it into a white-to-blue ombré in both short and maxi lengths. Drawing from her recent wedding experience, she also presented many looks in white and holographic silver, including elegant dresses adorned with pearls, paillettes, and tiers of fringe. For her own nuptials, Kamali chose to wear her best-selling shirred Diana dress in white, paired with cowboy boots, a black leather moto jacket, and sunglasses. In her pre-fall collection, there’s a lighter fabric version of the “lazy Diana” dress, set to hit stores just in time for cuffing season next year.
