Baldur’s Gate 3: Why It Deserves 2023’s Game of the Year
Currently the subject of a deeply stupid debate about whether it deserved to win GOTY, Baldur’s Gate 3 is polarizing. From the outside, all many see is a bunch of character conversations and slow-paced, tactical, turn-based combat. I understand why some people are skeptical.
As someone who prefers the bombastic action of games like Spider-Man, I get it. But trust me, there’s a reason Baldur’s Gate 3 is getting so much praise. It’s an incredibly feat in game design.
Don’t take my word for it though. Watch this viral video by Mo Mo O’Brien that showcases the wild creativity invoked in Baldur’s Gate 3’s missions and story beats. The video explains how the game allows for a wide variety of approaches towards quests, embracing experimentation and thinking outside the box.
Even if the gameplay isn’t your cup of tea, you can’t deny how impressive it is to design a game that allows for such freedom. If you’re fascinated by this video, maybe it’s time to give Baldur’s Gate 3 a shot.
