Former Giants manager Baker eyeing return to organization originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Exciting news for Giants fans as a familiar face is potentially making a return to the organization in 2024, adding to the exciting offseason moves.
With the recent hiring of Bay Area native and former Giants catcher Bob Melvin as the next manager, San Francisco has been making plenty of nostalgic moves, including bringing back former outfielder Pat Burrell as the hitting coach and former third baseman Matt Williams as the third base coach.
Former Giants manager Dusty Baker recently revealed in an interview with 95.7 The Game’s Jason Dumas and F.P. Santangelo on “Willard & Dibs” that he has been in talks with Giants CEO Larry Baer about the possibility of returning to the organization in some capacity after his retirement from managing the Houston Astros.
“I’m also actually talking to the Giants,” Baker told Dumas and Santangelo. “I talked to Larry Baer the other day about the possibility of maybe even joining them and so we just have to see how things work out for all of us.”
It’s still unclear what role Baker might have with the Giants, but the fact that he mentioned the organization’s Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats, may point to a potential role at the minor-league level.
Baker, a former outfielder who played for the Giants in 1984 and managed the team for 10 seasons from 1993-2002, is a beloved figure among Giants fans, and his return to the organization would be a highly anticipated and warmly welcomed move.
