Blake Lively Sparks Controversy with Latest Post Allegedly Mocking Kate Middleton’s Photoshop Scandal; Fans React with Disappointment

Many admirers of Blake Lively believe that her recent Instagram joke missed the mark.

On March 16, the 36-year-old actress, known for teasing her spouse, Ryan Reynolds, on the social networking site, seemed to aim her humor at a new recipient—and her fans did not respond positively. In a deliberately altered advertisement for her fictitious mocktail brand, Betty Buzz, a picture of Lively was digitally inserted against a pool backdrop with exaggerated hands and a hovering lemon. “I’m thrilled to unveil this new image I took today to announce our 4 new @bettybuzz & @bettybooze products,” Lively stated in the caption. “Now you know why I’ve been out of the spotlight.”

In response to the post, Betty Buzz jokingly commented, “Naysayers will claim it’s a result of editing.”

This incident occurred shortly after images of Kate Middleton and her children were withdrawn from multiple photo agencies due to concerns of “manipulation,” for which the Duchess of Cambridge took responsibility on X.com. “Similar to many amateur photographers, I occasionally experiment with editing,” she expressed on March 11. “I want to extend my apologies for any confusion caused by the family photo we shared yesterday. I hope all mothers had a joyful Mother’s Day celebration. C.”

This action only added fuel to the ongoing rumors about Middleton’s location, as the mother of three has not made a public appearance since it was announced in January that she underwent a “planned” abdominal surgery.

Supporters of the princess expressed dissatisfaction with Lively, believing she used her caption to “ridicule” the royal controversy. While some users (including Hugh Jackman) reacted positively to the post, others criticized the businesswoman for “mocking a woman who is recuperating from surgery.”

“Come on Blake, show some decency. The princess is clearly unwell, and you are taunting her? Unacceptable. I expected more from you,” one user commented, while multiple fans of the Gossip Girl actress expressed that they were “disheartened” by the post.

“Wow, so distasteful,” one user responded. “I was a supporter, and this is not how women should support each other… you can do better Blake.”

Although one commentator noticed that Middleton is not the only celebrity faced with accusations of altering an image, another individual implied that Lively’s post was actually a dig at the Wales family’s public relations team, rather than the princess herself. “It’s improbable that Kate conducted the editing or wrote the statement claiming to have done so,” they asserted. “Blake is mocking the Royal PR agency, not Kate.”

Regardless of the interpretation, it may be wiser for Blake Lively to stick to teasing Ryan Reynolds. Those jokes always seem to hit the mark.
