The heavy rains that triggered the landslide washed away a significant portion of the cliff where these luxury homes, estimated to be worth up to $15.9 million, are located. ABC7’s helicopter footage shows a large pile of dirt, sand, and rocks at the base of the cliff on the beach below the properties on Scenic Drive in Dana Point.
Concerns have been raised by residents like Jan Cocchiara, questioning if the development in the area has compromised the stability of the hill. However, the city of Dana Point has reassured that all three homes have been inspected and are not deemed to be in immediate danger.
Despite the alarming visuals captured by the news chopper, one of the homeowners confirmed that their house is secure and has not been red-tagged by the city. Dana Point City Manager Mike Killebrew also stated that there are no structural concerns at the moment and that access to the beach below the debris remains unaffected.
The real estate company Redfin estimates the three adjacent homes to be valued at around $15.9 million, $14.1 million, and $12.9 million each. This incident is part of a series of landslides triggered by powerful rainstorms across Southern California in recent days.
