As viewers tune into Super Bowl LVIII, they may notice a special addition to the Kansas City Chiefs’ jerseys for the 2023-2024 season: a patch featuring a football with the initials “NKH.” These initials pay tribute to Norma Knobel Hunt, the respected matriarch of the Hunt family, who sadly passed away in June of the previous year. Norma Hunt, a minority owner of the Chiefs, was married to the team’s founder, Lamar Hunt, who passed away in 2006.
The Chiefs introduced the “NKH” patch at the beginning of the 2023 season to honor Norma Hunt’s legacy. If you’re not a Chiefs fan, Super Bowl LVIII may be the first time you’re seeing this special patch. Norma Hunt’s influence extended beyond being a team owner – she also holds a unique place in Super Bowl history as the sole female member of the Never Miss a Super Bowl Club. Her absence at Super Bowl LVIII marks the first time since the inaugural Super Bowl that she will not be in attendance, having attended every game from Super Bowl I to Super Bowl LVII.
The official NFL account shared that the Chiefs will be commemorating Norma Hunt’s memory during this year’s Super Bowl through the NKH patch. This gesture serves as a poignant reminder of her significant contributions to the team and her enduring legacy within the NFL community.
