Elon Musk has confirmed an exciting new feature in the works for Tesla cars – a smart parking system. This system will allow the car to find a parking spot on its own and autonomously park. One of the key features will be a ‘tap to park’ gesture that will make parking effortless for Tesla owners.
As per Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, this new system will utilize Tesla Vision cameras and autonomous driving software to identify free parking spots and maneuver into them. The car will then present the driver with a selection of potential parking spaces to choose from. After the driver selects a spot, they can simply exit the vehicle and the Tesla will park itself in the chosen spot.
Elon Musk hinted that this system sounds similar to the Reverse Summon feature that has been rumored for a while. In addition to the “tap to park” option, the Reverse Summon feature, which may be called Smart Parking or Self-Parking, is also expected to include other capabilities such as “closest to the door”, “near cart returns”, or “end of the parking lot” choices. Each of these options will cater to different parking needs such as convenience during bad weather or minimizing the risk of damage from other vehicles.
While the release date for this new feature is uncertain, it is speculated that it may be included in the upcoming FSD v12 update. Regardless, it is an exciting development for Tesla owners and the future of smart parking technology.
