Fulton County DA Fani Willis Reveals Personal Relationship with Special Prosecutor in Trump Election Case

Personal relationship admitted between Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade amidst attempts to get them disqualified from Georgia election interference case.

In her 176-page filing, Willis seemed to shrug off allegations, stating that “any personal relationship among members of the prosecution team does not amount to a disqualifying conflict of interest or otherwise harm a criminal defendant.”

Willis and her office have defended that the relationship hasn’t tarnished their ability to oversee the case. 

“Defendants have done nothing to establish an actual conflict of interest, nor have they shown that, in the handling of the case, District Attorney Willis or Special Prosecutor Wade have acted out of any personal or financial motivation,” it said.

The filing emphatically denied the claims made by Trump co-defendant Michael Roman regarding the alleged relationship and highlighted a lack of evidence.

“To be absolutely clear, the personal relationship between Special Prosecutor Wade and District Attorney Willis has never involved direct or indirect financial benefit to District Attorney Willis,” the filing stated.

Included in the filing was an affidavit from Wade acknowledging their personal relationship, which he said did not exist at the time of his hiring.

The filing stated that the accusations are “salacious and garnered the media attention they were designed to obtain” and denied any financial or personal conflicts of interest.

It emphasized that attacks on Wade’s qualifications “are factually inaccurate, unsupported, and malicious, in addition to providing no basis whatsoever to dismiss the indictment or disqualify” him.

In reaction to the news Friday, Trump criticized the Fulton County prosecutors in a post on Truth Social, calling the case a “scam” that is “totally discredited & over!”

Trump attorney Steve Sadow said in a statement Friday that Willis’ response “asks the Court to turn a blind eye to her alleged personal and financial misconduct.”
