Epps, now 53 years old, has a troubled history with drugs, having served two years in jail for drug possession back in 1989. He started by selling drugs in his hometown before eventually moving to New York and later to Los Angeles, where his entertainment career took off.

Survivor’s Remorse and the Influence of Ice Cube

During the podcast, Epps revealed that he turned to drugs to cope with feelings of “survivor’s remorse.” Despite his struggles, he praised Ice Cube for trying to uplift him during those difficult times. Epps recalled moments where Cube would encourage him and remind him of his worth, even as he battled addiction.

In a poignant moment, Epps shared how his old friends back home rejected him when he found success in Hollywood. Feeling disconnected from them, he turned to drugs to maintain a sense of connection. He expressed his sadness at the realization that his friends seemed to prefer him when he was struggling and in pain.

Moving Forward and Current Projects

Despite his tumultuous past, Epps has found success in recent years. He currently stars in the HGTV show ‘Buying Back the Block’ alongside his wife Kyra, as well as the Netflix series ‘The Upshaws,’ which is now entering its fourth season.

While reflecting on his experiences with drug abuse and the support he received from Ice Cube, Epps continues to grow as both a comedian and actor. Through his honesty and openness about his struggles, he serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges in their own lives.
