Specialist White-Ball Cricketer Colin Ingram Takes on Leadership Role at Glamorgan
Colin Ingram, the formidable batsman from South Africa, has embraced a new chapter in his cricketing career as a specialist white-ball player, along with the added responsibility of leadership at Glamorgan.
Following the retirement of Jacques Rudolph, Colin Ingram and experienced Australian bowler Michael Hogan will share the captaincy duties for the upcoming season. Hogan took on the role on an interim basis in the Championship after Rudolph’s departure and led Glamorgan to Finals Day in the NatWest Blast before the curtains fell on his career.
Having transitioned to focus primarily on white-ball cricket, Ingram’s exceptional performances in limited-overs matches have propelled him towards participating in various global T20 tournaments. He has been the standout player in county cricket over the past two seasons, with an impressive tally of 1,026 runs and five centuries in white-ball competitions in 2017. His success was recognized with the PCA MVP awards for the T20 Blast in 2016 and the One-Day Cup in 2017.
Although Ingram will be representing the Adelaide Strikers in the upcoming Big Bash, his venture into the IPL was with the Delhi Daredevils before he joined Glamorgan in late 2014. As the new season approaches, Hogan will continue to lead the team in red-ball cricket, while Ingram will take charge in the One-Day Cup and T20 Blast tournaments.
Under Hogan’s stewardship, Glamorgan secured consecutive victories against Durham and Worcestershire, who went on to clinch the Division Two title. Wrapping up the season in seventh place, Glamorgan showcased their potential with a squad featuring up to eight Academy graduates towards the end of the campaign.
Glamorgan’s Chief Executive, Hugh Morris, expressed his satisfaction with the appointment of both Hogan and Ingram as captains, highlighting their strong leadership qualities. The decision to divide the captaincy responsibilities across different formats aims to inject fresh energy and motivation into the team throughout the demanding season ahead.
