Inspired by her own encounters with being disregarded or dismissed in various situations, King shares, “This was inspired by doctors who don’t listen to women, but really, it can be applied to any situation where we feel we’re being ignored or given the brush-off for any number of reasons. I try to stand up for myself in situations like this, and I’m not always the best, so I put it into a song to remind myself.”

Residing in a secluded log cabin in the lush Green Mountains of Vermont, disconnected from the constant buzz of technology, Sarah King’s path to When It All Goes Down has been marked by adversity. Raised in New England, she ventured to the South in her early twenties, sharpening her musical talents in a Georgia rock band while navigating the complexities of adulthood. Upon returning to her roots in the North, King found solace in the genuine sounds of front porch folk and traditional blues, reflecting her personal experiences with loss and sorrow.

King’s personal tragedies, including the successive losses of her beloved pet, first husband, and mother, mirrored the somber themes present in her music. “All of a sudden, my life began to imitate art,” she muses. Distancing herself from music as a means of avoiding grief, King eventually sought solace in group therapy and grief counseling, using music as a medium to confront and express her emotions.

The introspective and dark themes explored in When It All Goes Down resonate throughout the album, capturing a delicate balance between despair and hope. King’s journey of self-discovery and her adeptness at conveying the intricacies of human emotion through her music provide a poignant and relatable experience for her audience. With its emotional depth, integrity, and vibrant energy, When It All Goes Down serves as a testament to King’s fortitude and artistic prowess.
