The LABC Academy: Creating Opportunities for Trainees
The LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Academy is offering 30 spots for its upcoming cohort, set to begin work in local authorities across England starting in June 2024. This initiative follows previous recruitment drives that were met with overwhelming interest, indicating a strong demand for training opportunities in the building control sector.
According to LABC chief executive Lorna Stimpson, the first three recruitment rounds received an impressive response, with over a thousand applicants in total. The program’s success lies in attracting individuals who possess a technical mindset, enjoy problem-solving, and are eager to embark on a fulfilling career in public service.
Trainees enrolled in the academy benefit from a combination of practical on-the-job training, formal education, and financial compensation. The opportunity to work alongside seasoned building control professionals provides invaluable hands-on experience for those seeking to enter the field.
Since its inception, the LABC Academy has welcomed 124 trainee building control surveyors, including Zaida Zekaj, a 23-year-old who transitioned from an architecture background to join the program. Zekaj highlights the gratification of contributing to the creation of safe living and working environments, emphasizing the supportive mentorship and guidance provided by the academy.
During the two-year program, trainees work towards achieving a Level 4 and Level 5 diploma in building control surveying, positioning them for future roles as chartered surveyors or building engineers. Salaries for entry-level trainees vary based on experience and location, ranging from £19,500 to £23,500 per year. Additionally, participants receive essential equipment, software, and student memberships to professional organizations.
Aspiring individuals interested in joining the LABC Academy can find application details on the official website. The program offers a unique opportunity to develop skills, gain qualifications, and contribute to the field of building control. For inquiries or submissions, contact news@theconstructionindex.co.uk.
