Meet Juju Green, aka Straw Hat Goofy, a movie enthusiast who talks about films all day, every day. His energetic commentary on movies of all genres has earned him 3.5 million followers on TikTok and made him a staple at industry events. Now, he’s launching a new podcast, “Get Rec’d,” where he’ll chat with celebrities and film fans to discuss the movies that made them who they are.
Guests on the show will include acclaimed figures such as “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler, Daniel Kaluuya and Kane Robinson of “The Kitchen,” Disney animator Eric Goldberg, and others. Green sat down with Variety to share how Coogler inspired him to create the podcast and how he hopes to make his mark in the film industry.
In a candid conversation, he revealed, “I fell in love with podcasting when I did ‘Geeks of the Week.’ I really wanted to create a space where people can connect over movies, which are a universal language. You can tell a lot about people by their favorite films and the movies that shaped their lives.”
Regarding his dream guests, Green shared, “When I met Ryan Coogler, I was at a loss for words. He asked me what I wanted to do with my platform, and that got me thinking. That’s when it hit me that I wanted to start this podcast.”
