If you hadn’t already read—perhaps in the pages of Slate—that Google was making changes to its algorithm, you’ve probably noticed it in your own searches. A.I. Overviews have significantly altered how we navigate the internet, which also means big changes for readers and publishers like Slate.
Throughout these historic developments, our business and tech writers and editors have been closely following the story and reporting on what it means for you, as well as the future of journalism and online media. In short: It’s more difficult than ever for readers to find our stories. But Google has introduced a new feature to make it a bit easier for you to find original reporting from the publishers you trust.
The feature is called Preferred Sources, and it lets you customize which outlets you want to see more prominently in your results. Just select outlets you know and like, and their stories will receive more prominent placement in Top Stories and News and appear in a specific From Your Sources section.
If you’d like to make sure you’re seeing Slate when you Google “spam recruiter text legit?” or “trump lying to supreme court,” it’s a quick and easy process. Here’s how you do it:
First, make sure you’re logged into your Google account, then click this link. Simply check the box next to slate.com, and voilà! Our stories will now appear when you search for the latest news.

Alternatively, after doing a Google search, click on the icon next to Top Stories (the circle with the gray box), and you can add slate.com manually there, as well as any other trusted news source that deserves top billing.

That’s it! Now Slate stories will be prioritized in your search results going forward.
To stay connected with us outside of the algorithms, subscribe to Slate Plus and sign up for the Slatest for daily news updates in your inbox. As always, we’ll be here reporting on the latest tech news and what it means for you, and we hope you’ll be here with us.
