Some somber news has emerged for fans of the popular YouTube channel The Game Theorists as founder MatPat has announced a step back from creating content, marking the end of an era for many.

Over 18 million subscribers later, the deeply impactful channel has made waves across gaming culture, notably shedding light on complex gaming narratives such as those found in Elden Ring. While MatPat has paved a way for well-researched content, his genuine approach has played an instrumental role in making games such as Five Night’s at Freddy’s widely adored without being overwhelmed by horror. And who else can say they tried getting the Pope to play Undertale? Only MatPat.

However, MatPat’s final upload is not until March 9, 2024, with the channel transitioned to new hosts, and until then, the channel will provide weekly theories to celebrate its legacy. Fans expressed their emotions under MatPat’s announcement video on YouTube, thanking him for years of dedication and thought-provoking content.

Amidst a sympathetic fanbase, MatPat has revealed that stepping down will allow for his well-deserved rest, pointing out the immense labor that the last 13 years have demanded. Remarkably, his exit won’t halt the theorist from future projects and his departure is appreciated by both fans and developers alike.
