Discover my extraordinary health journey from being diagnosed with AIDS and given only three months to live to thriving at 54 years old. It all started in 1999 when I received the life-changing news about my diagnosis.
From there, I embarked on a treatment plan that has helped me maintain an undetectable viral load, allowing me to live a full life. However, this healing journey has not been without its challenges, particularly with regard to my weight.
After fluctuating between different medication regimens, my weight has shifted drastically, taking a toll on my body and my confidence. I’ve grappled with the physical and emotional effects of gaining and losing 40 pounds over the years.
Now at 230 pounds, I continue to face difficulties finding clothes that fit well and feeling comfortable in my own skin. Despite the advice of my doctor, I’ve struggled to make the necessary dietary and lifestyle changes to manage my weight and overall health.
While my journey hasn’t been easy, I’ve learned valuable lessons about the impact of fad diets and the importance of sustainable, healthy habits. This includes incorporating more exercise into my routine and making gradual changes to my eating habits.
Living with other health conditions, such as diabetes and arthritis, has presented additional challenges, but I remain committed to finding a balance that allows me to prioritize my well-being.
